Nadejda Vlaeva
Chopin Works for Piano and Orchestra

"Anyone fortunate enough to have heard Nadejda Vlaeva's prize-winning Liszt recording ....will already be aware both of her formidable technique and rare ability to make the piano sing. These qualities are in as much abundance on this new recording.... The Concerto performance has an almost classical degree of restraint ...The slow movement is especially fine and the subtlety of Vlaeva's pianism shines through. With the "Krakowiak" Concert Rondo she is even more in her element and wonderfully characteristic, something that can equally be said of the Andante spianato et Grand Polonaise, which is of course presented here in the orchestral version. ..But the highlight of the disc... has to be the Bolero Op. l9. Nadejda Vlaeva gives us a splendid rendition of a piece seldom performed."
Paul Lanfear, European Piano Teachers Associassion Journal

"As with many of the greatest performers, it is the outward impression of simplicity that marks Vlaeva out, an impression that disguises the extraordinary refinement of her responses…”

“ The sheer delicacy of the playing…is utterly captivating…”

“ Vlaeva is without doubt a very considerable artist and I hope that she will soon return to the studio…”
Charles Hopkins, International Record Review

"A natural lyricist of supple grace and charm...always musical and poetic."
Tim Parry, International Piano

"These recordings...are marked by sensitivity, fluent, and polished pianism."
David Mulbury, American Record Guide

Nadejda Vlaeva
A Liszt Recital

Nadejda Vlaeva was awarded The International Grand Prix 'Liszt' du Disque 2002 for this CD. Past winners include M. Pollini, A. Brendel, Z. Kocsis, Gy. Cziffra - L. Bernstein, G. Solti and others. Award presentation took place in Budapest, Hungary.

"…this pianist’s Liszt recital on MSR Classics, one of the best I’ve heard in recent years.”

“ The concert etude Un Sospiro (A Sigh)…to my knowledge never performed better than Vlaeva does it here.”

“ With her virtuosic technique allied to a true poetic sensitivity, she does full justice to a composer whose music other have exploited too often for its blood and thunder qualities.”
Atlanta Audio Society

"[Vlaeva] displays a command of the Lisztian manner gifted to just the few."
Ates ORGA, International Piano Quarterly

" Vlaeva's Dante Sonata ranks among the top recordings of this challenging work...Her Gnomenreigen and Hungarian Rhapsody ["Pesther Karneval"] are as fine as on any recording."
David Mulbury, American Record Guide

"Poetry, beauty of sound and a singing line are her chief concerns...The Rigoletto paraphrase...illustrates her lyrical poise and musical refinement, as well as a gorgeous tonal palette...One of the features that marks out Vlaeva as a natural poet of the piano is her exquisite sense of timing, her ability to shape a phrase with just the right degree of temporal inflexion..."
Tim Parry, International Record Review

" In lyrical selections like "Les Cloches de Geneve" and Un Sospiro simplicity and directness govern the pianist's poetic impulses."

" [She] rightly treats the Dante Sonata as the mini-drama it is, rather than an extended octave etude, and her incisive, colourful performance more than holds its own with Earl Wild's commanding 1985 recording, along with admirable recent versions from Frederic Chiu and Leif Ove Andsnes."
Jed Distler, Gramophone

"...one of the most stylish and stunning debuts ever!"
Malcolm Troup, European Piano Teachers Association Journal
